Personal Branding in a Digital Age

The term Personal Branding has been used since the late 1990’s when a man by the name of Tom Peters wrote an article entitled, “The Brand Called You.” The article, which was published in Fast Company Magazine introduced the idea that everyone is a brand and because of this has an opportunity to stand out.

From the world’s largest company to a high power CEO and on to the office receptionist  we all need to understand the importance of branding.  If we are to compete and sustain in a challenging marketplace, we need to be able to market ourselves effectively.

Most women have an especially difficult time with this concept. Most take on the roles as caretakers, encouragers and sideline cheerleaders who root other loved ones on as they reach their goals. Because of this, many find it hard to stand up and say, “hey, I am great at this and let me show you what I mean.”

Competitive Edge CEO, Shantha Wetterhan spoke with Women Warrior Radio and shared insight on the importance of women being able to leverage their personal branding in this digital age.

I agree! For me I find it difficult to balance the mom in me and the entrepreneur. I stay home with my kids, but also have the itch for much more! It’s hard to do both!

I’m home with my kiddos and working. I totally feel ya Leah! I have come to realize that I can’t be everything and everywhere all at once, so it’s ok to say no to some things in order to get more of what’s important in life.
